PEACE WEEK 2016: DAY 7: WOMEN SERVICE DAY @ Day of Kids @ Boys and Girls Club

UN's Sustainable Development Goal: Gender Equity Ending all forms of discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic human right, but it also crucial to accelerating sustainable development. It has been proven time and again, that empowering women and girls has a multiplier effect, and helps drive up economic growth and development across the board. Gender Equality is one of 17 Global Goals that make up the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to achieve the global unity that we seek.  Learn more about the targets for this Goal here.

The Casady Service-Learning Program in collaboration with Boys Scouts of America, Rose State College and  the Volunteer Program at Boys and Girls Club at Memorial Park provided a festival of activities during Peace Week 2016: Women's Day for the club members and their families.  

Mrs. Clay, Service-Learning Director, had a pinwheels for peace booth.  Mrs. Clay volunteered with Miss Kassie Wrobel.  Miss Wrobel also volunteered from noon to 4:00 pm on Children and Teens Day at Casady School.  Miss Wrobel made pinwheels for Peace, helped install the "Peace Silhouttess" at Johnston. At Boys and Girls Club, Miss Wrobel made banners for the Peace Walks on 9/21 at Casady and 9/24 at the Myriad Gardens. Children and teens at Casady and Boys and Girls Club will leave their thoughts of whom them will make peace with on 9/21/2016 on the banners.  The banners will be sent to the Peace One Day Headquarters in England. Miss Wrobel is the Exploring Executive at Last Frontier Council- Boy Scouts of America. kassie.wrobel@scouting.org

Club children took their decorated pinwheels home to remember to bring peace wherever they might be with empowering everyday kindness and to tell family and friends that there is a Peace Day, September 21, when people around the world pledge to be more peaceful, stop violence, cease fire.   The Club members also decorated Peace Silhouettes a week earlier.  The Club's Peace Silhouettes are part of the Peace Art exhibit at Miller.

The Service Learning Program also displayed the content of a Hope Trunk at the booth courtesy of the Oklahoma National Memorial and Museum Education Program.  As children and their families made pinwheels for peace, they learn about stoping violence on Peace Day for an event such as the bombing to be prevented by everyday kindness for all.

The Club dancers were not in attendance and the "Connecting Peace Steps to Rhythm", choreography by Mrs. Hazel Lopez, International Dance Studio CEO was postponed until Monday late afternoon. The dance follows the beat of Native American drums.  One Heart, One Beat, One Step: Peace One Day!  This initiative is part of Peace One Day Rhythm of Peace "Music and dance are highly powerful tools to foster togetherness and empathy between individuals, groups, and communities, everywhere and anytime." http://www.peaceoneday.org/get-involved/music-dance

Global Unity Compassion Games:  Mission 7

For Reflection: Before you move on to Mission #7, reflect on yesterday's mission. Agents, our seventh mission is to unleash the sunlight of the our spirit: our connection to one another. When you think of the idea of connection, what comes to mind? It has been argued that the aspect of life human beings crave andyearn for the most is connection. Connection to a sense of meaning in our lives. Connection to the passions that inspire us. Connection to the world around us, and of course, connection to each other. In fact, our greatest desire for connection of all is our desire to authentically connect with one another. True connection with those we deeply care about is like sunlight to the human spirit. With it, it feels like we are being seen by the light of the world. With connection, we can overcome the greatest challenges, and make it through the starkest winters. Without connection, we grow lonely and anxious, and eventually, we feel isolated and even hopeless. This is because human beings are fundamentally social animals. And lasting connection - which comes from seeing into one another genuinely, supporting one another, mourning our grief and celebrating our joys together - is to us what sunlight is to a tree. Your mission today, Agents, is to show someone you deeply care about that you celebrate your connection to one another. This person could be anyone in your life, friend or family member. If this is not possible, write your person a letter, or give them a phone call to express your joy for your connection! 10:00- 12:00 Make banners, pinwheels, hands and peace silhouettes. Learn and Teach Hope Trunk
1:00 -4:00 Make Peace Art and Learn and teach a Peace Dance.

After the Walk volunteers are welcome to enjoy the Turkish Festival at will.  Bring money to taste their amazing food.
